We Finally Have a New Blog Site!

Ever since our mission field has been changed from Nicaragua to Costa Rica we have been super busy! Due to the violence and instability in Nicaragua in 2018, we sought the Lord's will and consulted with our sending church and mission board. We prayerfully made the decision to change fields from Nicaragua to Costa Rica, at least until the Lord lead us otherwise. We immediately reached out to our supporting churches to inform them of these changes. Next on the agenda was making all of the changes to make the transition happen. With all of the changes going on, one of the things that we had not yet done was make a change to our ministry email and blog. Below, I have included a link to our new ministry blog which better reflects our present ministry in Costa Rica.

February 2020 Prayer Letter

Dear family and friends,

We hope that you are doing well. Time is flying. Last month, we received the final documents for our residency process. They have now been submitted and we are simply waiting for their approval. Before beginning home Bible studies last month, Jeremy preached in two different baptist churches who will be praying for us and possibly helping in the work. Thankfully, the Lord has answered prayer and sent a few people our way to help with the church plant. Our first (unofficial) Bible study was only for the core group of friends and family. Jeremy taught on the Great Commission and laid out the mission to reach San Pablo for Jesus Christ. The following day we began visiting the area. After receiving the invitation, one woman visited our home and said she had been praying that God would giver her a place to study the Bible in San Pablo. Another family began attending who was looking for a Gospel preaching church. We have also met a couple of Nicaraguans who were very interested in attending. We have now visited just over 300 homes. Jeremy has preached on city buses and in the central park. One teenager received Christ as Savior and several others seemed very close. Many attentively listened to the message and carefully read the gospel tracts that we gave them. In our next Bible study, we had a few that could not come, but we still had about 15 people meet. Jeremy has begun to teach a series of messages on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He has also been doing some work on the ministry website, Facebook page, and Whatsapp group.

Until we begin holding Sunday gatherings, we will continue attending another baptist church in a nearby city. It has been good for the kids to make friends and be part of kids classes. At our home, we have made many changes to accommodate the Bible studies and also make a kids area. Michelle has continued doing homeschool with the kids. They will be returning to school in mid-February. Another important thing for us is that we have been working to build more relationships in the community.

Thank you for all of your prayers and support. I believe the Lord answered many of our prayer requests last month. This month, please pray for the following:

1. That the Lord will save souls as we proclaim the Gospel in San Pablo.

2. That the believers here will learn the Word of God and become grounded in the faith.

3. That God will established a vibrant, Gospel-preaching baptist church here in San Pablo.

January 2020 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that each of you had a wonderful Christmas and a great start to the new year. Although, Jeremy wrote last months prayer letter, we were so caught up in the work that he forgot to send it! It can be read on our blog at Blanz2nicaragua.blogspot.com. We apologize for that. Last month, we finished our commitment to helping in the Atenas church plant. We had special Christmas parties for each age group. In January we will have an official "goodbye" service to conclude our service there. In the meantime, we have continued working on the final requirements for legal residency and establishing a new religious organization in Costa Rica. We have purchased some equipment for the upcoming church plant. We have spoken with our home owners and they agree with the need for a Gospel preaching church in the area and are very supportive. We have also spoken to others in the region about our vision and some have offered to help out and shared ideas to better reach the community. Some will be helping us with visiting and evangelism. Until we have an official start to the new church, we will be visiting some other Baptist churches in the area to share our plans and ask for prayer. This month, we will be ramping up the visitation and evangelism. We have also received a good report from the church we started in Nicaragua. Pastor Berner has informed me that they will soon begin a local church Bible institute to train people for the ministry!

In Costa Rica, December is the end of the school year. Ellowyn graduated from kindergarten with a great report from her teacher. Lila also finished first grade with great grades. They have also done very well adjusting to the language and culture. Elijah has also been growing up quickly and learning new words every day! The kids are now on "summer" break until February. We had a special Christmas and always enjoy celebrating the birth of our Savior. In the home we are making several changes as we will begin hosting weekly Bible studies. We are converting our garage to an area to hold meetings. Our home owners have been a great help and have made us a new storage area. While it is a bit hard for the kids to leave the church where we have served, they are excited that we will soon be starting a new one.

We want to send special thanks to all who gave special Christmas offerings. This month, please pray:

December 2019 Prayer Letter

(This letter was written in December, but accidentally was not sent until now)

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that this letter finds you doing well. We have stayed busy here. Jeremy has continued to help with the visitation at the church. While we were visiting a few months ago, we met a teenager and his mother who were from Nicaragua. His mother called upon Christ to save her. Since then, she had to return to Nicaragua and left her son in the care of a church member. Since then, he has been very faithful in the church. Every week he has been excited to help us out in visitation. Although another family had to move away, the church has been growing. Jeremy has been been teaching on God's plan for the family as well as on the sufficiency of the Scriptures for faith and salvation. Jeremy has also been working on various materials for the current church and our next church plant. Near the end of the month, we were contacted by our lawyer about some issues with the religious association that was helping to sponsor us here in the country. We are praying about establishing one which will be sufficient for our church, other ministries, and even to help other missionaries with legal residency. We have gradually been shifting our focus more to our plans for the next church plant. Jeremy has been sharing our plans with others. There are now a few different churches that have expressed the desire to help. There are also two other families who are planning to help us with evangelism.

Last month was very busy for our family. Because we are still awaiting approval of legal residency, we had to take another short trip to Nicaragua. There is a small shack on the Nicaraguan side which serves food. While there, Jeremy was able to share the gospel with the people there. While we now feel like experts at border crossing, we look forward to no longer having to do it. The kids have been doing well. We had some sicknesses which made things more difficult, but we are better at the moment. Lila has been doing great in school and got excellent grades on her exams. Ellowyn has also been getting much better at her Spanish. Elijah has even surprised us with words we never taught him. At the moment, we are at home without a car. It is getting repaired from when a motorcycle hit us 6 months ago. We are still awaiting another replacement part from Japan.

This month, please pray:

1. That God use our ministry to save souls and add them to the church.

2. That God will help the church to mature spiritually and give them a burden for the lost.

3. That God will lead us as we make plans for the next church plant.

October 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that this letter finds you doing well. We are staying very busy here. The Dove family has returned to Costa Rica and we are investing a few more months with them to strengthen the church plant where they are. Last month, we had a special activity for "children's day" and another for independence day. The church also held a conference on "Breaking Chains" and victorious Christian living. At the end of the month, there was a church family movie night. Jeremy has continued to visit the area, evangelize, and build relationships. During the services, he has been preaching a series on the book of James and also a Sunday School series on God's design for the family. We have seen an increased faithfulness in attendance and one new family added to the church, which is encouraging. Jeremy has also prepared things to benefit both the current church and upcoming church plant, such as door hanger invitations, decision cards, hymn videos with lyrics, and also materials to train members on invitation counseling. As we prepare the church in these key areas, such as how to lead someone to Christ, this should strengthen the church. We have seen many new visitors as well as new contacts. Back in August, a young Nicaraguan mother received Christ on visitation. Since then, her teen son has become very involved. Due to economic reasons, she had to return to Nicaragua. One family in the church has brought her son into their home for the time being. We believe that God is doing a great work in his life.

As for our family, last month was super busy. Michelle's parents came to visit us for the first time since our arrival here in Costa Rica. Thankfully, the trip went smoothly and it was great to see them. Near the end of the month a sickness seemed to go around much of the country and is now affecting some of us. The kids are all doing well, apart from a little sickness. They are all learning Spanish pretty well. Michelle has stayed busy helping out with much of the church work. She helps in the nursery, the children's ministry, the ladies ministry, and also puts her sewing skills to work in making things for the church. She is also homeschooling the girls to make sure that they are where they need to be in their English reading and writing.

This month, please pray:

1. That God will bless our efforts to share the Gospel with the community.

2. That many will receive Christ and be added unto the church.

September 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that this letter finds you doing well! It's hard to believe how quickly the time passes. Jeremy continued focusing on visiting and building relationships. We have seen many visitors and many who have begun coming off and on. Last month, we saw three people profess to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior. Michelle has been busy working in the nursery, teaching kids classes, and also organizing a mother's day banquet. She gave the message to the ladies and it was a blessing for many. Our church also held it's first soccer event. It was a good fun activity for the church and also a way to build relationships with newer members and others in the community. At the end of the month, the missionary who started the church plant returned. We will now be able to adjust ministry roles, share the preaching and teaching, and Jeremy will be able to focus a little more on evangelism and outreach. We intend to continue with them until around the end of the year to help grow and strengthen the church. In the meantime, we have been hearing great news from the church we started with Bro. Berner in Nicaragua. Last month, they celebrated their 4th anniversary. Pastor Berner told Jeremy that about 12-15 people that regularly serve in visitation and about 20 people serve in the church ministries each Sunday. There are also 3 church plants being started by men out of that church. One of them recently celebrated their 1 year anniversary. We hope that God will bless our ministry here in Costa Rica to the same degree!

As for our family, we are doing well. We have had a few sicknesses, but thankfully a much smoother month than the previous one. Michelle has been staying busy in the church and also helping out with some events in the school of Lila and Ellie. She has been able to build some relationships with some of the mothers. Jeremy tries to visit with other men from the church when possible, but sometimes they have to cancel. Last Saturday, Lila went visiting with him. In the latter half of the month, the church was in a bit of a trial. We had to focus and work to resolve the situation, but we are thankful that God is bringing the church out of it. Jesus will build His church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it.

August 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that this letter finds each of you doing well. Last month, we have been focusing on strengthening the core of the church to help prepare for future growth. We have seen some make decisions to be more faithful in church. One young man has expressed desire for baptism and discipleship. Another man believes the Lord has been working in his heart to serve the Lord in a greater capacity. Tomorrow, we will spend some time visiting together. It is always time laboring together in the work of the Lord. Last month, we had a special family fun day at the church. It was a great time of fun and fellowship. We have seen some who have attended in the past become more faithful as well as a new family that has now been attending for about a month. Bro. Rick Dove, the missionary who started the church, will be returning from furlough at the end of August. We have agreed to work together with his family for a few more months to strengthen the church. It should be a blessing for both of us as we make preparations for our next church plant.

As for our family, it was a bit of a difficult month. We had a couple rounds of sickness that slowed us down a bit. We are still working on attaining legal residency. All of our documents have been accepted, but we still had to wait for our appointment to do our fingerprints with the government offices. We also had to take an unexpected trip to the Nicaraguan border. Although we are legally in the process of legal residency and are not required to make these trips to abide her legally, there is a different law that requires us to renew our visas at the border to be able to continue driving legally. Thankfully, we were able to accomplish that on one really long day of driving! Otherwise, our family has been doing well. Both Lila and Ellowyn are doing well in school and are both learning to speak Spanish much as children here do. Even Elijah has been making some great strides in both English and Spanish. Sometimes, he surprises us with words we never taught him!

Throughout the month of August, we would greatly appreciate your prayers. Please pray:

July 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that all of you are doing well. This last month has been a busy one for us. We are now leading the church in Atenas full time. Jeremy has been preaching on the Gospel of Christ, the Baptist Distinctives, and the book of James. He has also been visiting each week with a couple of men from the church. We were able to share the Gospel with many, we saw 2 men receive Christ as Savior. It was a blessing to see one with tears in his eyes confess his sin to Christ and call upon Him to be saved. One is Nicaraguan and his brother is Costa Rican. Their mother came from Nicaragua. The whole family has been attending with us for about 1 month now. Also, one mother who received Christ last month has also begun attending with her two sons. For Father's Day, we did a special Father's Day service. We saw several fathers attend who had not come in a long time. A couple have made commitments to continue attending. Last week, we saw our highest attendance yet. Michelle has been working in the nursery and in children's church. At the end of the month, she organized a ladies activity. It was a blessing for all who attended. On the last Sunday of the month, Jeremy began a series on church membership. We hope to see many follow the Lord in believer's baptism and become committed members of the church.

As for our family, we have been doing well. Lila and Ellowyn have been really growing in their ability to speak Spanish. Lila had a science fair at her school and was one of 2 winners from her class to compete on the school level. It was a good experience for her. Elijah has also been making progress in both English and Spanish. Last month, there was a really bad flu virus that passed around with many having to go to the hospital. Elijah came down sick with a really high fever. His fever got so high that it was right at 104 degrees even with medicine. At the hospital, they gave him a shot to lower the fever and even that didn't work. Eventually, they were able to get it back down. Thankfully, he recovered after a few days. Other than that, we have still been working on getting our legal residency taken care of. At this point, our documents have been accepted, but we are waiting for it to be processed before we have legal status.

This month, we will be very busy leading the church in Atenas. Please pray:

1. God will bring for the increase and save souls as we bring the Gospel to the community.

2. That those who receive Christ will follow the Lord in baptism and church membership.

June 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

Here in Costa Rica, we are now entering into rainy season. Although the humidity is high, it has been nice to have a little cooler weather. We are still working on the final details of our residency process, but should have all of our documents accepted very soon. We also have had to do a lot of work to get our car insurance company to cover the repairs from the hit and run last month. They have requested to see our passport 3 times now and keep coming up with reasons why they won't simply cover the repairs. Last month, we began to transition into the work of the church plant in Atenas, Costa Rica. The founding missionaries will be taking a brief furlough, and we will lead the church until they return. There have been many adjustments, but it has been good. We recently added a new Sunday School class, which should help to accommodate future growth. The man who received Christ last month has been faithfully attending. We also saw two others receive Christ on visitation. We have also built many good contacts within the community. Through his preaching, Jeremy has laid a strong foundation for the Gospel. Because there are so few Baptist churches, Jeremy has also been teaching a series on the Baptist Distinctives. As the church is strengthened within, we hope to begin greater outreach in the near future.

As for our family, we are adjusting pretty well. Lila and Ellowyn are now attending a nearby school and are quickly learning both the language and the culture. They are very unique in that they not only speak fluent English (which the other children are learning), but Ellowyn is the only blonde student in the entire school! Elijah has really surprised everybody in how quickly he is learning both Spanish and English. At one year and 9 months, he can already speak a little spanish in a variety of contexts. He enjoys greeting everyone with a "Hola!" and saying "Adios!" or "Caio!" (pronounced "chow") to them when we leave. Maybe in a few years, we'll let him teach us some advanced grammar lessons. Thankfully, we have been quite healthy. We had the privilege of attending our first Costa Rican wedding between a Nicaraguan couple who attends our church. We knew that we would be able to minister to Nicaraguans here, but we didn't know it would happen so soon!

Please continue to pray for the people of Nicaragua. Apart from the political situation, they have experienced some major flooding. This month, please pray:

1. That God help those who have had their homes flooded.

2. That God will help us with the residency process and problem with our insurance company.

3. That God will use our ministry to strengthen His church and bring many souls to Christ.

May 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that this letter finds you doing well! We have been working to get established here in Costa Rica and to begin a new church. As we were praying and developing plans on how to get started, we were contacted by a fellow BIMI missionary here in Costa Rica. He is working in a church plant, but some things have come up and they are in great need for a furlough for many reasons. We have agreed to take over their church plant so that they will be able to take the much needed furlough. This is an excellent and unexpected opportunity to help another missionary, begin serving in Costa Rica, and will help us as we seek to establish future church plants. Since then, we have begun transitioning into the work. Jeremy has begun preaching. Since then, we have seen one man trust in Christ as Savior and 2 others make decisions to rededicate their lives to the Lord. Michelle has been helping in the children's ministry. We will also continue to build relationships and lay the groundwork for our next church plant in San Pablo. It is also a possibility for the current church plant that we are assisting to aid in starting the next one. In the meantime, we have also been working to iron out an issue in the process of obtaining legal residency. We also had to work in a quick trip to the Nicaraguan border in order to renew our visas. There are a few obstacles, but we are trusting the Lord to work it all out.

Thankfully, last month was much smoother than March. Lila's eye is doing much better and Ellowyn's problem with the mosquito bites has been resolved. All of our children are making progress in their Spanish. Here in Costa Rica, the week preceding Christ's resurrection is known as "Holy Week" and most businesses close. We were able to build some relationships with our neighbors and focus on the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Unfortunately, as we were returning home on Resurrection Sunday, a motorcycle crashed into our vehicle and immediately drove off before we could get his plate number. He was likely uninsured and this type of "hit and run" is very common. Thankfully, we are all okay, but now we have to work out all of the repairs with our insurance company.

This month, there will be much transition. Please pray:

1. That God help us overcome the obstacles to us obtaining legal residency in Costa Rica.

2. That God will bless our efforts to bring the Gospel to the Costa Rican people.

3. That God will use our ministry to strengthen and build the church plant where we are serving.

April 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family, April 2019

We hope that this letter finds you doing well. Last month, Jeremy took several trips to the city of San Pablo looking for a house to rent in the area where we will start our next church. It was very difficult to find a house at a reasonable price. Some houses were taken off of the market the same day that they were listed! Thankfully, by the middle of the month, we found the right house in the right area. Another renter had almost taken the house just before we could pay the deposit, but the Lord worked things out for us to get it. After nearly 3 months of waiting, we finally received Elijah's birth certificate. Michelle's aunt came down to visit us and stay with Michelle and the kids while Jeremy took a brief trip to Nicaragua. Jeremy had to work with customs agents to prepare our things for transportation to Costa Rica. During his time there, Jeremy was able to spend a little time with the church that we started there. It was good to see that the church is still growing and encourage the pastor in the work. Jeremy was able to provide some counsel regarding a church issue that had come up. Thankfully, the issue was resolved in a positive way. He was also able to spend some time sharing the gospel with a Nicaraguan family. As Jeremy was finalizing the details to transport our things, the Nicaragua/Costa Rica border was unexpectedly shut down to Nicaraguan transport trucks. Thankfully, after a few days of closure and delays, it was back to business as normal. Upon returning to Costa Rica, we were able to move into our new house in the city of San Pablo.

Last month, we were able to celebrate our ten year anniversary. As missionaries, it has been a crazy ten years! I (Jeremy) am thankful for a godly wife who loves the Lord and her family. As we moved into the new house, we ran into some new problems. Lila fell off of an exercise machine at the park, hurt her eye, and had to go to the hospital. Thankfully, they were able to use a surgical glue instead of stitches. Ellowyn also woke up to 80+ swollen mosquito bites from her head down to her toes. She is very sensitive to them and it may take a week or two for them to go away. Since then, we have waged war against the mosquitos by installing mosquito nets, screen boxes in the windows, and mosquito repellent products. We have also been very busy getting internet installed, assembling furniture, and unpacking our things from Nicaragua. It was not without problems, but we are thankful that we have successfully transitioned into our new house.

This last month, Jeremy also met with a pastor who planted a church in the neighboring city. We shared ideas and we will be attending his church until we get our next church plant off the ground. This month, please pray:

1. That God lead our family and protect us from sickness and injury.

2. That God open doors and help us to build relationships here in the community.

March 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family, March 2019

Blessings from Costa Rica! This last month was a bit rocky with some unexpected setbacks. For the last couple of months, we have been waiting for Elijah's birth certificate from the US Department of state. After no progress over the last two months and many phone calls, our case was referred to a "specialist," and then to a supervisor. Nearly 2 months after cashing our check, they are now progressing to print it. We hope to have it soon. In the meantime, we have now found a residency lawyer who will be ready to begin the legal process. We also began the process of purchasing a vehicle. We had several problems with the wire transfer, but at the end of the month, we now have our car! At this point, most of the local taxi drivers now know us and Jeremy has been able to witness to some of them. Once we had our car, we were able to take a trip up to Heredia province where we plan to start our ministry. Not only are houses hard to find, but we have found that the houses tend to cost much more and have less space. We will also need to be creative in our outreach as a large portion are in gated areas with restricted access. We were also blessed that the Lord brought to us a missionary family who wants to help us in the church plant while they are in language school. We have received good news from Nicaragua. Our church plant is continuing to grow. They have several full time Bible Institute students and several more for the Saturday studies. They are also doing evangelistic services throughout the city with the hopes of planting other churches.

Our family is now going through many adjustments being in a new mission field. It has also been a bit of a transition from the grassy fields and horses we frequently saw in Nicaragua to metropolitan area of San Jose/Heredia. Lila is relearning to speak Spanish pretty quickly. It was more difficult for Ellowyn. For a few weeks, she struggled, but she is now much more comfortable with the new culture and language. Elijah surprised us the other day with his first Spanish words like "adios" and "gracias!" For a couple of weeks, our family struggled against some stomach sicknesses, but thankfully, we are all now back in action!

This month, we have some very important decisions to make regarding where we will live, where we will start our next church, and how we will begin. Please pray:

February 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

Greetings from Costa Rica! The last few weeks have been a blur as we've been working very hard in this transition. Although we are still waiting for one last document from the United States, we have proceeded to make our transition to Costa Rica. Last month, Jeremy and Pastor Kelley took a brief survey trip to Costa Rica. We surveyed 4 cities of significant population that do not have a single Baptist church! We also were able to get a house reserved for our first few months in the country. Upon returning, we then proceeded to get packed up for our move to Costa Rica. Getting through the airport was a challenge with three small children and all of our suitcases, carry-ons, strollers, and car seats, but thankfully, that is not something we have to do frequently. We just arrived in Costa Rica last week and are now starting from square one to get established. We now have the basic necessities for the house, cell phone service, and internet. We are also in the midst of searching for a reliable vehicle to help us be more effective in our ministry.

Moving our family from one country to another is always a bit of a challenge. With every move, there are always many things that we cannot bring, but our children did very well with that. After condensing down our things, we are now doing a short rental agreement until we find a house closer to where we will serve. Although life is more difficult here in some ways, it also has its benefits. Although there are too many things to get done each day, we sometimes have had to slow it down a bit and help our kids to enjoy the special things that Costa Rica offers. Ellowyn was very excited to eat some authentic Gallo Pinto (Costa Rica rice and beans) and we have all enjoyed the fresh fruits from the market. There is also a big adjustment in language and culture... even from Nicaragua! Ellowyn is now relearning Spanish and Lila is now remembering more and more each day!

Just yesterday, we received an unexpected blessing. A church where we had presented our ministry last year has recently voted to take us on for support. Praise the Lord! This month, please pray:

1. That God will bless and provide for the churches in Nicaragua during this time.

2. That God will lead us to the exact city where He would have us plant our next church.

3. That God will protect and help our family as we get established in Costa Rica.

4. That God will use us as a witnesses to lead others to Christ.

January 2019 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family, January 2019

Happy new year! Last year went by so quickly for us. Though we did not travel the whole year, we presented our ministry in 70+ churches from southern FL to Northern MI. Near the end of the year, we had to change plans due to the crisis in Nicaragua, but we are glad to be on track to bring the Gospel to Costa Rica! Nicaragua is continuing to face greater sanctions and external pressure. In the mean time, we are maintaining a relationship with and supporting the church there during this trying time. We were glad to see many teens surrender to Christ and many follow the Lord in believer's baptism. We were also encouraged to see many families growing and serving in the church. God is doing a great work there in Nicaragua. We are encouraged that He will also do a great work in Costa Rica! At present, we have a short trip planned for mid-January to survey some areas and look at housing, schools, etc. We now have most of our residency documentation ready to go. We are hoping to have everything ready to arrive in Costa Rica by the end of January. We were also encouraged to be contacted by other missionaries who have expressed interest in helping with our next church plant. We will be seeking God's will every step of the way.

Although we did not originally plan to be in the US with our family for Christmas in 2018, we were glad to have the opportunity to spend the Christmas season with our family. The girls enjoyed singing in their Christmas play at church. Elijah has been zooming around the house with some new toy cars he got for Christmas. We were also able to send a special Christmas offering to the church in Nicaragua. They did a special Christmas service for the kids and gave them presents. Many families there can do nothing at all for Christmas, so it is always a very special time for them. Around new year's day, Jeremy came down sick with Strep throat. Thankfully, he is on antibiotics and is doing much better. This month, Jeremy will have the privilege of baptizing Lila. She trusted Christ as her Savior at home one night and has been growing in her faith ever since. She has learned about baptism and wants for all to know that Christ has saved her. Praise the Lord!

December 2018 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that this letter finds you doing well. Last month was a busy month for us. Jeremy took some time to call all of our supporting churches regarding our temporary field change to Costa Rica. Since then, we have also been doing a lot of planning for our upcoming transition. We have already gotten our passports renewed and have been in communication with the Costa Rican consulate regarding the documentation needed for our transition. We will need to get all new birth certificates, marriage certificates, police records, and financial documents and get them all apostilled before leaving the states. In the meantime, we are also planning a short survey trip as we make plans for our next ministry. We presently have the dates set for mid-January and hope to secure housing and other things for our arrival in late January. We do not yet know all that the Lord has planned for us, but we believe we will be involved in church planting, evangelism, and discipleship. It is estimated that more than 10% of the Costa Rican population is made up of Nicaraguans, many of whom are displaced refugees from the crisis in Nicaragua. We are also praying for the Lord's guidance on how to reach them with the Gospel. We also will have some trouble and expense in bringing our vehicle in from Nicaragua. We are praying about how to best handle that.

Although we have much transition ahead of us, it was nice to have a little stability at our home church last month. Jeremy enjoys going on visitation. He was able to share the gospel with many, including some who could only speak Spanish. Michelle enjoys singing in the choir. Our girls have also been preparing for the Christmas musical. Michelle has been working hard on home-schooling the kids. We have been considering options for schooling in Costa Rica. There are many things we have to figure out, but we know that God is good and will guide us in these next few steps.

Last month, President Trump signed an executive order declaring the Nicaraguan crisis as a national emergency and a threat to the United States. He imposed the first round of sanctions against Nicaragua. He is also expected to sign into Law the "Nica Act" including much stronger actions against the government of Nicaragua. This month, please pray:

1. That God will guide the situation in Nicaragua and bring peaceful resolution to the people.

2. That God will lead us as we transition to Costa Rica.

3. That God will use us to lead others to salvation by faith in Christ.

November 2018 Prayer Letter

This month, our letter is being sent out a little behind schedule because we wanted to wait and include some big decisions. Last month, we completed the last of our scheduled meetings for furlough. We were part of one missions conference in TN and one other meeting with a supporting church in KY. After returning home, we enjoyed being able to be a part of all of the activity at our home church. Jeremy was also glad to teach Sunday school and help with events when he had the opportunity. Due to the civil unrest and economic crisis in Nicaragua, we have been able to help our church with a relief offering. Despite the economic crisis, we were proud to see three men attend their 1st year promotion of their studies at the Bible Institute. One is serving as an intern under the pastor, while the other two are actively evangelizing and planting the Gospel seed in 2 neighboring cities for upcoming church plants. God has blessed and even provided homes for meeting locations.

For the last several months, we have been closely monitoring the situation in Nicaragua. We had hoped and prayed for the crisis to be resolved, but there is still no resolution. The U.S. Embassy continues the level 3 travel advisory, stating "avoid travel due to serious risks to safety and security" along with many other warnings. After several months of prayer, seeking godly wisdom, and heeding the advice of our pastor and field director, we sadly come to the conclusion that Nicaragua remains too dangerous and too unstable for our family to return at this time. This is a very difficult decision that we never expected to or wanted to make. We have also been seeking the Lord's direction for our next term. At this point, we believe that the Lord is leading us to go to Costa Rica until Nicaragua has stabilized. There has been a massive migration of Nicaraguan refugees to Costa Rica and we are praying about the possibility of a special ministry to help them. We do not yet know all that the Lord has planned for us, but we know that God is doing a work that is much bigger than we can understand.

In the near future, we are planning to personally contact our supporting churches regarding these changes. This month, please pray...

1. That the Lord bring peace and stability to the people of Nicaragua.

2. That the Lord continue to use our church plant to win souls and plant other churches.

3. That God will direct and lead us regarding our future ministry in Costa Rica.

October 2018 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We are now approaching the last of our meetings on furlough. Last month, we had meetings with 5 churches. Unfortunately, there was another meeting that had to be canceled. Though we have only a little time left on furlough, we were able to schedule one more missions conference. One new church began supporting us monthly, which brings us to 95% of our needed support. As for Nicaragua, the situation continues to remain unstable. Recently, the United Nations Human Rights Office conducted an investigation and published a report on the killings, torture, and detentions. After this was published, they were expelled from the country. The Nicaraguan Association for Human Rights now shows 512 killed, over 4000 injured, and over 1300 people that have gone missing. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will be making decisions with our pastor very soon regarding our return.

Last month, we were able to spend a little time at our home church. It was missions month, so we were encouraged to hear other missionaries share how God called them to their respective fields. We celebrated Lila's 7th birthday, and this month we will be celebrating Ellowyn's 5th birthday. The girls also liked being able to attend their kids classes at our home church. Elijah is now walking and climbing up everything that he can find. It turns out that we needed some of the extra time time to take care of some urgently needed car maintenance and repair. It was also a good time for us to take care of some doctor appointments. At the end of the month, we moved into a new house where we will stay the remainder of furlough.

This upcoming month, we will be taking a trip up to TN and KY for a missions conference and another another meeting. Please pray for us as we have some big decisions ahead of us regarding our return. These are decisions that we cannot take lightly. We are surrendered to whatever the Lord's will is for us during this time. This month, please pray:

1. That God will give us wisdom as we make plans regarding our return.

2. That God will bring peace to the people of Nicaragua.

3. That God will use us to to lead souls to Christ and be a blessing to others during the remainder of our time on furlough.

September 2018 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that this letter finds each of you doing well. Last month was another busy month for us. We had 9 meetings from northern MI down to southern FL. In between meetings, we drove over 3,200 miles. At this point, we are at 92.5% of our needed support. In Nicaragua, the violence and unrest has continued. Even the Nicaraguan Human Rights organization that was tracking it has been forced to close to receiving death threats. Ever since July 6th, the U. S. Government has ordered the departure of non-emergency U. S. government personnel. In other words, the embassy has been closed and only offers limited emergency services. Many other services such as medical care is also limited due to the ongoing crisis. We are continuing to monitor the situation and Jeremy may be taking a short term trip in the near future to be able to assess the situation with regards to our return.

Although we stayed pretty busy with meetings, we were thankful that many of them were in our home state of FL. This means that we were able to spend a little time at home. After having been gone for much of the last few months, it took a little time to get everything back to normal. Lila and Ellie really enjoyed being able to see some of their friends at our home church. Near the end of the month, we celebrated Elijah's first birthday! Time has passed so quickly since he was born. He brings smiles to everyone that he meets. As we approach the end of our furlough meetings, we are beginning to focus much more on our plans for our next term. We are seeking counsel and trust the Lord to guide us as we make some big decisions.

This month, we will be finishing up the last of our furlough meetings. Although our children love to see their friends and family, they also miss Nicaragua. This month, please pray for the following:

1. That God will bring peace to the people of Nicaragua

2. That God continues to advance his Gospel and save souls, even in these difficult times.

3. That God continue to guide us as we make decisions regarding our next term.

4. That God provide the remaining support needed for us to be fully funded.
